CO2 levels will rise
In the IPCC AR5 Synthesis Report in 2014, UN scientists calculated that we have a ‘carbon budget’ of how much carbon dioxide can be emitted before we exceed 2ºC of warming. We have a 66 per cent chance of keeping our global temperature to below 2ºC if we stick to this budget. It’s estimated from how much CO2 has been released since the industrial revolution against global temperature rise, is 2,900 gigatons. We have currently emitted 2,212 gigatons, most of which occurred in the last 30 years and with little sign of curbing. On average we emit about 38 to 42 gigatons.
