On August 9, Mike Trout posted a photo on X (formerly Twitter) of he, Shohei Ohtani and Ohtaniʼs translator, Ippei Mizuhara, each holding a graded copy of the Topps NOW card (#71) that pictured Ohtani striking out Trout as the final out of Japanʼs 2023 World Baseball Classic championship.
The card became an instant classic upon release on March 22, selling an eye-popping 42,273 copies in the short 24-hour sales window.
The card was available for $9.99 from Topps during the brief on-sale window. But after this photo was posted, the card began another uptick that saw raw copies consistently selling in the $35-$55 range.
