THE Chemistry Cup, renamed the Cologne World Cup, took place from April 10-13 in Germany. Welsh 75kgs Lauren Price won gold for GB, scoring unanimous points wins over two host nation boxers, beating Irina Schonberger and Sarah Scheurich. English lightweight Paige Murney won silver, coming up against Finland’s Olympic bronze medallist Mira Potkonen in the final. There Murney lost a unanimous decision but she had picked up two wins en route to the final, beating both Thailand’s Laopeam Pieamwilai and India’s Parveen. GB Jordan Reynolds began his tournament impressively defeating experienced Dutch 75kgs Max van der Pas in a unanimous decision. But Germany’s Arthur Beck Ohanyan eliminated Reynolds from the semi-final when he unanimously outscored Jordan. “A bitter pill to swallow,” Reynolds said. “In the deep end fighting after a year out of the ring in the Chemistry World Cup with two solid bouts under my belt. We’ve got to look at the positives, a medal coming home to the country and I’m now back into the swing of things… Mixed results but it’s moulding and teaching us for the long term goal.”
