RECOGNITION: Spennymoor Select won the team event
SPENNYMOOR BOXING ACADEMY held a successful show at the town’s leisure centre featuring a team event between Spennymoor Select and Scottish clubs. Top of the April 6 bill saw strong boxers Spennymoor’s Gav McGee and Hartlepool Elite’s Ben Henderson trade punches for three rounds with the huge crowd on their feet by the final bell to show their appreciation to both. McGee won by split decision and also took the trophy for best Senior boxer. At Junior level Spennymoor’s Macy Gallone beat Scotland’s Chloe Bodwick. Gallone’s constant punching made the difference as she won a unanimous decision. Macy also received the best Junior award.
The team event began with Bradley Smith who looked strong as he went on to beat Connor McCabe from Glasgow. There were also wins for Logan Reed, Danny Grainger, Rob Dunne, Amy Aspinall, Ken Snaith and a very tidy looking Brad Ellis proving that dedication and determination does pay off. There were narrow defeats for the club’s Henry Orton, Alex Jansen and Danny Mains. The team event ended with an 8-4 victory for the home side. Former world champion Stuey Hall was in attendance to support his former club. Head coach Robert Ellis said, “These home shows are what the club is renowned for and we hope to keep hosting more in the future. We would like to thank our brilliant sponsors and coaching staff for their help and hard work. “A special thanks to Mayor Clive Maddison and his wife Mayoress Liz Maddison for attending the show and choosing Spennymoor Boxing Academy as their charity to support this year. This help is greatly appreciated, and we are thankful that our hard work is recognised in our community.” The club will host another show in October.
