British Period Homes  |  Period Homes August 2013
The Oxford English Dictionary definition of the word chic is ‘elegantly and stylishly fashionable’, so with that in mind, our Decorating feature (page 15) this issue is paying homage to elegance and style in abundance with a wonderful collection of vintage and shabby-chic inspired fabrics,
furniture and accessories. This is an interior trend that is close to my heart, as I love the
provenance of time-worn objects, wondering who may have used the piece before and
the pleasure they would have gained from owning it. Embracing the faded grandeur of a once treasured find is a sure fire way of creating a truly unique feel in your home, without spending a fortune. Another vintage look making a comeback is lace, our Shopping notebook (page 11) celebrates the elegant influence it is having on homeware this season, from lampshades and
cushions to vases and candles. The summer months provide a fabulous excuse to blur
the boundaries between the outdoors and in, and I for one, need little encouragement
to make the most of the warmer weather. Our beautiful Homes and gardens (from
page 30) this issue are flooded with bright ideas to welcome the sunshine into your
interiors. So, wherever you are spending the month ahead, whether it is in your
garden or further afield, I hope you enjoy the sun, and don’t
forget to take your favourite magazine with you!
