Self build can deliver better quality, more affordable homes

A self build showcase event has highlighted that this method of housing delivery could offer a more eco-friendly and cost-effective route to home ownership across England. Hosted by construction company Beattie Passive and business and research network Cleantech East, the event focused on how to design a bespoke dwelling, tips on funding the project and information on how to integrate smart technology. “We want to open up the Norfolk market to get people to understand what a custom build is, and stimulate more building and more choice,” says Ron Beattie, managing director of Beattie Passive. “We are enabling a system which will allow houses to be constructed by anyone, anywhere.” Speakers included South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon, who championed 2015’s Self & Custom Housebuilding Act.
