UK residents would prefer to purchase a heritage dwelling instead of a standard new build, a survey has found. Discount Flooring Depot asked homebuyers what they look for in a house and found 82% would prefer a period property due to its original features. Most house buyers like the idea of having original windows (42%) and fireplaces to enjoy during the winter months (40%). Wooden floors are also a much sought after feature of older homes. However, 69% of respondents felt that period properties could be unaffordable.
70% of homeowners say naturally lit interiors boost their mood and general wellbeing. According to a survey by Express Bi-folding Doors, people moving to a new property will spend £4,786 above their budget to ensure their home benefits from enough sunshine. “Exposure to increased sunlight has been shown to have a huge impact on wellbeing and mental health”, says behaviour expert Richard Daniel Curtis, who looked at the findings.
