Dalintober’s summer sands

It may take more than 150 tons of quarried sand to completely restore Dalintober beach but last Friday’s efforts were a step in the right direction.

In the past, it appears the council helped by paying for the sand.

In the 21st century, finding the funds has been left to a dedicated band of loosely-knit volunteers.

Once again people giving freely of their time have triumphed where off cialdom has shaken its head.

Dip for Dosh, Dalintober Beach Group’s main fundraiser, sees hardy people in Kintyre join loony dookers from round the UK to sample the sea on New Year’s Day.

It is almost coincidental that this weekend is the first Campbeltown Community Regatta.

That has led to the formation of another water-based voluntary group.

It has been supercharged this week to create an inviting atmosphere on Dalintober beach during Saturday aThernoon.

In the same week comes news that Kintyre Seasports Project has completed another part of its funding jigsaw. The project has awarded the contract to develop a full business case.
