Campbeltown Community Regatta’s beach heroes

A former Campbeltown Community Council member, pensioner Cathy Duncan, slaved over a grill as Dalintober’s beach bonanza enticed people onto the sands.

During last Saturday’s hot weather, which blessed the inaugural Campbeltown Community Regatta, Cathy and her helpers sold at least 200 burgers and 120 hotdogs as well as distributing bananas and water donated by the town’s supermarkets.

The paddleboard instructors, led by Trudy Kennedy, ran a simple booking system, as they were swamped by people wanting to try the delicate balancing act that is paddleboarding.

The instructors worked tirelessly from before 11am until after 3.30pm but there had to be a cut-off point or they would have continued into the night.

Across the whole day, more than 60 volunteers gave time and money to ensure the event’s success.

Towards the end there was a fun competition.
