DESPITE last-ditch efforts at Westminster, an era will end on May 29 when Royal Bank of Scotland pulls out of Campbeltown. Staff at the branch, in common with all at the 52 banks set for closure, were given a choice of redundancy or redeployment. Argyll and Bute MP Brendan O’Hara said: ‘The bank is not listening to customers and businesses.’ In December, the majority taxpayer-owned Royal Bank of Scotland announced the decision to close 62 of its branches in Scotland, including those in Campbeltown, Rothesay and Inveraray.
