Schooner in distress
LAST Saturday afternoon, during the height of the storm then raging, the schooner Mary Ann Mandall, bound from Londonderry to Gaston with a cargo of wood, was observed flying distress signals near Davaar Island.
The schooner’s cargo had shifted during the passage and she was for a time in considerable danger. Coming into the firth owing to stress of the weather, she anchored at Macrinnon’s Point. The anchors failed to hold and the vessel was driving to sea when the signals for assistance were made.
