Down memory lane

RECENTLY down memory lane asked for pictures and reminisces of 1947‘s ‘Big Snow.‘

The Big Snow began in England in 1946 and lasted until March 1947. In western Scotland it only really got going in March, but with drifts up to seven metres deep it makes last week‘s snowfall look insignificant.

The Courier has this report from 1947: ‘A pregnant shepherd‘s wife of Strone Farm, two and a half miles beyond Carskiey Farm, had taken ill. Dr McKenzie was called so he made his way to Strone Farm on foot through the deep snow.
