IF there is a more reviled, beloved and misunderstood part of videogames than downloadable content (or DLC for short) then it would be hard to pinpoint it. It often represents both the best and worst aspects of the entire medium, sometimes within the same game, and has resulted in some of the highest highs and turgid lows.
In the simplest terms, DLC can take in a wide variety of extra content for an already released game - be it cosmetic weapon or character skins, additional in game gear, extra missions or even entirely separate storylines the size of a main game themselves. With such a breadth of options for adding to a game it’s little surprise that the quality of the additional content can also be somewhat variable.
