Preservation machinery insurance
can be a minefield and it has
come to my attention that there
are lots of anomalies in club policies as
well, which everyone involved needs to
look at in some detail. One particular
point that stood out was that one insurer
stated that a club, which we won’t name
here, needed to be a member of the
excellent Federation of British Historic
Vehicle Clubs (an organisation that I
would recommend to everybody).
However, it appeared the club had
never become a member, even though
the insurance policy had been running
for a few years. Granted, both parties
are guilty of not checking the details,
but if something had gone wrong, you
can guess who could have been liable.
That said, there’s so much to talk about
regarding insurance and we need to
revisit this whole topic again.
Turning to other things, I was at the
excellent Eastern Counties Vintage
Tractor Show at Norwich Showground
and I have to say that at £1 for a large
cup of tea, drink prices were reasonable.
I try to avoid paying £1.80 per cup, and
I even noted £2.30 for a cup of coffee
while in my home county, Kent, at a
recent show. You must be joking – I
voted with my feet on that one.
I absolutely appreciate traders
have to cover costs, but sometimes
prices do seem out of all proportion. I
am, however, a great fan of Women’s
Institute and other charity refreshment
stands at shows. For example, the East
Coast Truckers stand at the Eastern
Counties Shows in late March sold
homemade, fresh sandwiches and drinks
at reasonable prices.
The money you pay is going to a
good cause as well, as was the case
in Norwich when donations were
requested. I was happy to give that bit
extra to them – just food for thought as
they say.
