SHAGGY
HOT SHOT 2020
EMI
★★★
Twenty years on from Hot Shot’s release – and 18 since Hot Shot Ultramix – Shaggy reworks some of its songs, plus other hits, emphasising rogue’s anthem It Wasn’t Me’s sunnier aspects, swapping Oh Carolina’s vintage production for a more bassy, lumbering feel, and giving Boombastic a more aggressive rhythmic thrust. You’ll also find new material, including two versions of Eddy Grant’s Electric Avenue, with Dave Audé’s remix one of the LP’s best efforts, and a crowd-pleasing if less graceful cover of Peter Tosh’s Buk-In- Hamm Palace.
