Classic Van & Pick-up  |  FORDSON OF NOTE
AT the risk of boring you (risk? More
like a talent, in my case), I must again
mention the big show planned for
Gaydon in August. It is called the Classic
Van and Pick-up Show because, well, it is for
classic vans and pick-ups and the title also
reflects its connection with this magazine.
I would love to repose in my editor’s luxury leather
chair and announce that it is all my doing, but I can’t.
For a start, I don’t have a luxury leather chair, mine is
made from PVC (in my case, that stands for purchased
very cheaply). And the guy who has really done all of
the work is Tom Caren, who already organizes the
highly-successful Classic and Vintage Commercial Show
at the Heritage Motor Centre. I’ve just helped out here
and there with a few bits of advice and a couple or so
suggestions.
But whereas I can’t be of huge use in the organization,
I can give it as much publicity as possible, and that’s why
it is getting another mention.
This will be the world’s first show dedicated solely to
classic light commercials – including campers, ice cream
vans, taxis, hearses and ex-police cars – and I did mean
that. The world’s first. Almost every classic vehicle
event has a section dedicated to commercials, but there
hasn’t yet been
a show staged
exclusively for
the smaller
stuff that we
are all so fond
of.Anyway, I don’t want to get too corny, so just check
out page eight for the latest on this event. And please,
make sure you get there, either with your vehicle, with
your club or with just you. It’s got the makings of a
cracking show. Let’s make it happen.
You’ll see on the Letters pages this month that I’ve
been given a roasting for not going ahead with an
eighties special issue. I did a sixties CVP and then a
seventies edition, but decided to end it there because,
in my opinion, that was where the really interesting
stuff stopped. Was that hasty and selfish of me? If
you think so, do get in touch and tell me your stories
from the eighties, backed up with pics if possible.
