THAT’S WEIRD!

What the…? We were alarmed when we looked closely at Brian Lytle’s 2017 photo contest entry. But that’s not a decapitated head in the water—right? right?—it’s a mask that Brian uses to mark the water intake line at his Gooderham, Ont., cottage. Brian works in the movie and music industry; the head was leftover from one of the Saw horror films. “I hate that props and endless other things get thrown out, so I’ve always been a big recycler,” says Brian (here with his dog, Dexter). “And I prefer something fun over an empty jug as a waterline marker. My crazy logic was, why not have the ‘buoy’ be as authentic as possible?” Brian insists that he’s “never had a bad response” to the floating head. “But I have been asked where it is if I don’t put it out.” And it’s not the only prop that’s found new life at the cottage. “The bunkie I’m building right now is made entirely with lumber from Total Recall,” says Brian. “I’m calling it ‘Total Relax.’ “—J.D.
