Dancing Times  |  June 2015
Lots of issues relating to the dance industry are discussed in this latest issue of Dancing Times. Laura Dodge reports on Dance UK’s industry-wide conference, The Future: new ideas, new inspirations, which was held at three separate London dance venues in April; Chris May, former administrative director of Richard Alston Dance Company, gives his views on the Department of Culture, Media and Sport in Talking Point; and Dominic Antonucci, ballet master of Birmingham Royal Ballet, discusses the pros and cons of dance competitions in light of the BBC’s recent Young Dancer Competition, on which Zoë Anderson also reports in IntoDance. In addition, we travel the world to bring you reports and reviews from Bratislava, London, Milan, Munich, New York, Nice, Paris, St Petersburg, Stockholm, Taipei and Tokyo, and in obituaries we pay tribute to three great ladies of dance – the Russian prima ballerina Maya Plisetskaya, the dance teacher Jocelyn Mather, and the dance critic, historian and writer Kathrine Sorley Walker. Like our editor emeritus, the late Mary Clarke, to whom we paid tribute last month, Kathrine wrote for this magazine for more than 70 years, and her words of dance wisdom will be very much missed.
