Dancing Times  |  September 2014
Well, here we are at the start of another academic year, as well as being at the beginning of a new dance season. In this month’s Dancing Times, we visit the new Dancers’ Course in Kingston upon Thames run by the BalletBoyz; talk to Jérôme Kaplan, the designer of Northern Ballet’s The Great Gatsby, which returns to the stage later this month; and pay tribute to Dame Alicia Markova, who is honoured at a special event to be held at the London Jewish Cultural Centre in October. I am also delighted that Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Dominic Antonucci and Rambert’s Dane Hurst have contributed articles to this issue. Finally, however, I end this editorial on a sad note: Kevin Berry, who wrote for Dancing Times and sister magazine, Dance Today, for many years, sadly died on August 12. He had been living with cancer for a number of years. Kevin, who concentrated on the varied dance events taking place both on stage and in schools in the north of England, was one of the kindest people you could possibly hope to meet, and we will pay tribute to him in next month’s magazine. In the meantime, everyone at Dancing Times extends their deepest sympathies to his wife, Pat, and his children and grandchildren, whom he adored.
