The 2017+ Ford Super Duty trucks are pretty dang good right off the showroom floor.

Ford’s engineers hit a home run with the release of that 6.7L Power Stroke in 2011. The motor makes great power, gets pretty good mileage and has been extremely reliable, even in high-mileage applications.

Over the course of the last seven or so years, the motor has had some updates that have helped with longevity and durability; and when Ford redesigned the complete Super Duty from the ground up, it put together one of the most usable F250s ever.

With all that said, that doesn’t mean Ford hasn’t left plenty for the aftermarket and truck owners to improve upon to help make their trucks exactly what each owner needs it to be.

The owner of this 2017 black crew cab Lariat truck expects it to do just about everything—daily driving and commuting in rush-hour trafic and towing his boat to the lake in the summer and his enclosed trailer and UTV to the mountains during hunting season.

This month, we investigate improving the reliability of the truck, because it will be used extensively for towing signiicant amounts of weight in the heat of summer. First off, the factory oil pan on the 6.7L does its job just ine. It holds oil, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t have been designed a little better from a mechanic’s point of view.
