London’s Café de Paris has, for me, always been a venue full of glamour and mystique… with just a hint of debauchery. Its opulence and lavish décor conjure up images of buxom burlesque dancers, of spectacular painted ladies being just a little bit naughty, of Moulin Rouge nights with maybe just a sniff of exotic love-making somewhere behind those heavy velvet curtains. I once filmed an Agatha Christie adaptation there, aptly named Sparkling Cyanide, where my bejewelled character unknowingly sipped poisoned champagne at a sumptuous dinner after purportedly betraying her wayward husband. My death was dramatic, angst-ridden and fabulous, dahling.
