We’re thrilled to have the iconic chat show host Ellen DeGeneres (p32) as our cover girl this month. As one of America’s top TV personalities, she has blazed a path for lesbians ever since coming out in her first sitcom and now that she’s in the UK on ITV2, she’s flying the lesbian flag to ever-growing audiences here, too.
Joining our beloved Jack Monroe (p64), funny girl Eleanor Margolis (p30) and the brilliant Jay Bernard (p26) from this month is out lesbian theologian and broadcaster Vicky Beeching (p24), who writes very personally about the struggles she’s faced since coming out and of finding hope in difficult times. UK Black Pride co-founder and all-round badass Phyll Opoku-Gyimah (p28) explains why we should all get behind the #BlackLivesMatter campaign, singer and actress Heather Peace (p44) gives us the low-down on preparing for motherhood and DIVA’s new arts correspondent, actress and author Sophie Ward (p56) hears from Silent Witness star Liz Carr about her topical new show, Assisted Suicide: The Musical. We are also delighted to feature some beautiful shots from Lucy and Georgina Spraggan’s wedding (p36). It’s wonderful to see how many highprofile lesbians there are out there, but we are still not visible enough. Why are they mostly white and cis-gender? When will we see more celebrity nonbinary queers like Jack Monroe, and more out bisexuals? We are moving forward in so many ways and in other ways not so much. Let’s join together to ensure that no one is left behind on the march for progress and liberation. Let’s be the change in the world we want to see.
