PAY GAP AT THE BBC
The BBC has been criticised for the lack of diversity among its best paid employees after salary details for staff earning over £150,000 were made public. Figures revealed that the seven highest on-air earners were all white men, only five of the top 20 were female and none were black, Asian or of minority ethnic descent. While presenter Gary Lineker takes home between £1.75 million and £1,799,999, Clare Balding earns a comparatively paltry £150,000 to £199,999. Over 40 female BBC staff members, including Balding and Angela Rippon, have now signed an open letter to BBC Director General Tony Hall urging him to take action.
