Dear Diva, I’ve been unemployed for over a year. My savings are spent and I’m in desperate need of a job. One of my friends works for a large international company and they’re hiring for a number of roles. He didn’t mention this to me. One of our mutual friends did. He knows I’m looking for work and that I am reliable and capable. I’m so angry that he didn’t reach out to me.
Dear Broke And Angry, There could be any number of reasons why your friend didn’t reach out. One being that the available jobs don’t match your skill set or qualifications. If his company is hiring computer engineers and you only have experience pouring lattes at Starbucks, he wouldn’t ask you to apply. He also may have thought you wouldn’t be interested in the offerings, or that you had other job prospects. Before you start flipping out like a lunatic, reach out to ask what types of jobs they have. You are very frustrated at this point, but you need to continue to be proactive. Shit never just drops in your lap.
