Dr. Strange Love

Heartbreak, his husband, and homework equals seriously beautiful music from Harrison Blythe. Marc Andrews reports.

DNA: Your second album is upon us. Please talk us through the journey of San Ramon.

Harrison Blythe: I started off by capturing organic sound samples to use as beats. I do that with all my projects to give them a cohesive feel, recycling beats throughout the record in different ways. The last album was filled with character pieces, where I got to pretend to be someone else. This album is much more personal and autobiographical. I wrote a couple of songs for my husband, one for my first love who broke my heart, another for an abusive ex-boyfriend who died. There is a lot more of me in this record and a lot of the content was reminiscent of my time living in San Ramon, a city in the East Bay Area, California. San Ramon will always hold a special place in my heart that I cannot return to.
