T here’s always fun to be had when actors from our favourite series crop up in other high-profile genre productions. The Superm an film s, the Star W arssaga, the Jam es Bond franchise and the Gerry Anderson series all needed dependable character players based in the UK to ground the fantastic in solid believability. Rem arkably, Canadian actor Shane Rim m er, who has died aged 89, m anaged to be in all of them several tim es over, so convincing was his brand of dow n-toearth North Am erican realism. He was at ease in front of the cam era and in great dem and to play grizzled o cers and stoic professionals.
