WARREN BROWN AND MATTHEW MCNULTY
Warren Brown (as Jake Willis) and Matthew McNulty (Adam Lang), in Praxeus (2020).
“I’ve wanted to do a Doctor Who for ever,” says Warren Brown. “I’ve always been a fan of the series. I’ve worked with Big Finish for donkey’s years and I love it. I’ve been a regular in the UNIT series - Sam Bishop - and obviously there are so many people at Big Finish who have also been on the show, like Ingrid Oliver [who plays Osgood] and Jemma Redgrave [who plays Kate Stewart]. We often joked while doing the audio stories that maybe we could get Sam Bishop in an episode one day…
“It’s been an ongoing joke for years,” he adds, laughing. “One of my best friends from my Thai boxing days is Vinny Shoreman, and he’s the biggest Doctor Who fan in the world. I swear every time I’ve spoken to him on the phone for the last however many years he’s like, ‘Ey up mate, are you in Doctor Who yet?’”
Warren’s Doctor Who dream fi nally came true in 2019 when he was off ered a role in Praxeus. “My agent called and said, ‘Would you be interested in Doc-?’ And before she’d even fi nished, I said, ‘YES!’ It was a little bit out of the blue, but a wonderful surprise. My agent mentioned it would be working with a director that I’d worked with a few years ago on a TV show in Budapest called X Company - a wonderful director called Jamie Stone. Then there was the added bonus that we would be recording in Cape Town. And then I found out I’d be working with Matthew McNulty, who is a fellow northerner and an actor I’ve long been a fan of. I was like, ‘This is amazing!’ It just kept getting better and better.”
