i just love it when vintage items are used to create eye-catching wall art. So when I was sent a picture of a great wall sculpture made from paddles, I didn’t hesitate to give it a try in twelfth scale.
■ Balsa wood 2-3 mm thick
This version has quite an amount of distressing. I enjoy making worn and weathered miniatures. If that’s not your cup of tea, skip the ageing/weathering part and just paint or stain them to your liking.
■ 3 coffee stir sticks
I Googled ‘Canoe Paddles’ and came across a great free DIY template for 1:1 Beavertail paddles. I adjusted the size to twelfth scale. The miniature paddle is 10,7 cm long, the blade is 1,2 cm high and the shaft is 0,5 cm high.
■ Ageing water - mix of 2 drops of brown acrylic paint, 2 drops of black acrylic paint and a lot of water
