Julie Beswick makes memory chairs for grieving families. When asked if she would like to include her story with this project she said, “I’m very happy to, as it may help many people heal and focus on happy memories.”
■ 3/16” thick foam core
A few years ago she had asked me how to make my twelfth scale wingback chair. When I mentioned that some miniaturists use neckties for upholstery, she rushed off to the charity shop and brought back a handful of suitable ties.
■ 3/16” square dowel or shaped legs
Then Julie got the idea to make a chair for her recently deceased brother’s wife. She wanted to use one of his ties. She said her brother, whom she’d always been close to, “loved to wear ties.” She remembers him as a wonderful man, a mayor of a small town and very active in civic organisations.
