June Clinkscales first became interested in miniatures as a teenager. One day she had been antique shopping and wandered into a doll’s house shop by chance.
As June walked into the shop, she found herself becoming mentally and physically transported into another world. The shop owner, Wanda, was kind and patient with June, as she couldn’t help herself asking question after question. June realised that she could not afford to buy anything at that time. Nevertheless, she stayed for a long time looking around, studying tiny pieces for hours. Eventually she returned to that shop once she had some money and purchased a Chrysnbon kit.
While June acknowledges at that point, she truly did love miniatures, she had not yet become obsessed. Two years later, June’s mother gave her a Greenleaf Willowcrest doll’s house kit as a Christmas gift. Anyone would have fallen in love with this house! (Incidentally, this kit is still available online.)
Before June began working on her doll’s house, she had read about a miniature museum in Los Angeles. She thought perhaps it might be best to visit the museum first, and possibly pick up some building supplies and potential ‘how to’ books. This was before the internet made finding whatever we need so easily.
