Google changes everything

The world’s leading internet search engine, Google, is to shun all websites which do not have encryption.

Google’s decision affects approximately 99 per cent of websites since that is approximately the proportion which have the basic http label, without the s. “Security is a top priority for Google,” the company says on its website. “We invest a lot in making sure that our services use industryleading security, like strong HTTPS encryption by default. That means that people using Search, Gmail and Google Drive, for example, automatically have a secure connection to Google.”
