Why users are still the achilles heel of your organisation

Users are still the biggest cause of data loss for organisations and here are the top three reasons why.

User behaviour has consistently been the biggest area of concern for organisations when it comes to data loss.

Companies in almost every sector around the world have seen their critical data assets lost, stolen or leaked through human activity involving error, fraud and negligence. At a time when cybersecurity breaches are becoming more frequent and sophisticated, numerous surveys point to the human factor as being a key vector of weakness in the enterprise domain: the IT Policy Compliance Group says that 75% of all data loss is due to human error, the Aberdeen Group maintains 64% while CompTIA attributes 52% of the root causes of security breaches as stemming from users.

Keeping sensitive data out of the public domain is both a contentious and challenging contemporary concern. Of the 448 incidents of data breaches reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office during the first three months of this year, over half were due to human error and included such things as data posted to incorrect recipients, failure to redact data, loss or theft of an unencrypted device and information inadvertently uploaded to webpages.
