Essential Kitchen Bathroom Bedroom  |  June 2015
One of the first giddy joys of changing seasons is when you can shrug off thicker covers and sleep with open windows, the natural alarm clock of early morning light gently creeping in to wake you up. While swapping out heavier duvets and blankets and storing away larger items, I think we always want to hit ‘refresh’ on the bed look too, which is why this issue’s inspirational round-up of beautiful linens in Golden Slumbers (page 134) is particularly relevant to right now. In a time when kitchens have become
the hub and engine rooms of our life,
where we cook eat, socialise and relax as
families, it feels like our bedrooms and bathrooms have truly become sanctuaries in our home; these are private zones where we can unwind, reboot and revel in our precious downtime. In bathroom planning, the fact that we’ve moved away from the wet room idea and are gravitating back to larger bathrooms and elegant furniture, with showers that are either semi-frameless or completely frameless, echoes this. See Screen Stars (page 112) for all of the latest ideas on the most style-forward of shower enclosures. In bedroom design, I love that there is a resurgence in standalone dressing tables – see Dressed to Impress on page 142. Speaking of evolving design choices, there’s also a changing mood
in how we are approaching our kitchen planning. Not only are there ever-more clever design ideas (see Kitchen Solutions on page 67), we are also entering a new era in creativity. After years of pared-back simplicity, pattern (whisper it) is creeping slowly back in. Not convinced? See writer Hayley Gilbert’s picks in Prints Charming on page 82. It’s certainly an exciting time to be planning any bathroom, bedroom or kitchen project and I wish you the best of luck with your endeavours. Enjoy the issue.
