CHARTERING onto new waves

Technology has transformed many industries triggering the birth of many successful businesses and challenger brands such as Uber and AirBnB. Yachting industry is no exception and Ahoy Club, a newly launched digital yacht chartering service is a perfect example. Servanne Sohier speaks to its founder Ian Malouf about the business and how it is utilising technology to give the industry a facelift.

Launched only a few months ago, Ahoy Club is already off to a great start, powering ahead with almost 100 charters, ranging from a day to threeweek charters, on its books to date, rather significant and very commendable business this young. “This [the business] has been in the making for three years now.” says Ian Malouf, its founder and owner of Mischief - the stunning 54m superyacht which he bought in 2015 at a blink of an eye. He started his first business venture, Dial a Dump, a waste management business, well over three decades ago, growing it from a small 700 dollar truck to the largest privately owned waste management company in Australia that it is today.

A charismatic and successful entrepreneur with a sharp eye and mindset for all things business, technology and innovation from an early age, Malouf has natural passion for yachting and has been chartering yachts for the most of his adult life. “I’ve had boats all my life, even from when I was kid I had a small dingy. I bought Mischief in 2015, and I’ve often chartered yachts throughout my life as well.” he says.
