Citing sources

Citing your sources means recording the source of any information that you publish, whether onto your online family tree, or for your own research notes. If you access a document in order to find out information, then it’s good practice to make a note of that search.

Your citation should show what the document was, where it’s located (eg, online or in a library), when the information was accessed and when the source was created. This citation would then help ensure that you don’t repeat the same search twice, and also show other researchers where your information came from.
