TOP SPEC LIDS

ALL THE LATEST, COOLEST & TRICKEST PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS

If life was fair, everyone would be able to afford the very best bike kit on the market. The most important part of any motorcycling get up (bar some kind of futuristic protective cod-piece that nobody seems to have developed yet– what the hell are you waiting for!), is the now venerable helmet. Whether or not you feel that being forced by law to wear a lid is some kind of violation of your human rights, the fact remains that one can go on living, and loving, with a few whacks to the body, or even missing the odd part, or three. But smashing your brain, or face for that matter, can put a serious crimp in any plans you’ve made for the future.

Luckily for us, modern helmets are increasingly viewed these days as far more than just a safety requirement, and many are indeed cool as a liquid-nitrogen dipped cucumber. Of course, there are helmets built to all budgets, but as we said right at the beginning, try telling us that if you could afford it you wouldn’t purchase the lid of your dreams? Yup, just as we thought...

But bike kit is always aspirational and we know, from speaking to you lot over the years, that you do all try to aim for the top – especially when it comes to bonce protection. So, let’s have a look at the latest and greatest on the market right now, the ones that really turn heads. OK, some are pretty pricey, but in life some things really are worth waiting, and saving, for. Enjoy!

SHOEI X-SPIRIT III

What more can we say about Shoei, aside from its wares still being some of the very best lids out there? Better yet, the Japanese firm never rests on its laurels, nor keeps selling what’s basically the same lid for years at a premium price with a few new bits of plastic stuck on the exterior. Shoei produces brand new, high-tech and up to date shells every few years and this is the latest range topper, the X-Spirit III. It features six in and out-takes for superior ventilation (including a cheek pad vent), comes Pinlock ready and equipped with tear-off points on the wide-aperture visor. A Bradley Smith replica version is offered for patriotic types, alongside a Marc Marquez scheme and other colour options. Very cool, very trick and very, very nice.
