We love...
We love February
Dreary, dull, dismal, depressing, drizzly, defeating and dreich. I don’t know why there are so many words beginning with D that so expressively describe the weather at this time of year. Perhaps when the letters of the alphabet were milling around waiting to be sorted into some sort of language, the letter D did something unmannerly enough to seriously upset the lexicographical gods. Doleful, dim, dingy, desolate, drab, despondent and disconsolate. I am pretty sure that February would be less disgruntling if we focused on B words like beautiful, balmy, beguiling, bonny, brilliant, bewitching and bonzer

STEPS TO MORE GREENERY
How can we fit more plants into our lives and gardens? As a general point of principle, whenever I look at any built or constructed feature in the garden, I always try to think: can I replace what it’s doing with plants? Do I need so much hard surface, paving or driveway? Or can I cover that structure with greenery? And, of course, can I make my garden more diverse?
Planting a bare-root hedge
Bare-root plants are available until the end of winter, so this month is a good time to take advantage of them. They are a very sustainable option as they’re grown in soil rather than potting compost and light to transport
