As she prepares to release her first album in 15 years, the queen of country-pop tells us about the comeback she thought might never happen.

Whatever happened to Shania Twain? In the late 90s and early 00s, she wasn’t just big – she was Adele-level huge. It felt as though everyone had a copy of her 1997 album Come On Over, home to the inescapable hits Man! I Feel Like a Woman!, You’re Still the One and That Don’t Impress Me Much.

OK, so your favourite pop star went platinum. Shania went 11 times platinum with Come On Over. And her 2002 followup, Up!, was another global smash that gave us more massive pop songs topped off with exclamation marks: I’m Gonna Getcha Good!, Ka-Ching!, Nah! But then, after 2004’s Greatest Hits album, she kind of faded from view.
