A major review of RSE in primary and post-primary schools was undertaken from June 2018 to March 2019. The review examined the experience of teaching and learning in RSE. Young LGBT+ people have been calling for improvements to sex education for many years now. The issue has been raised in BeLonG To’s regular surveys of young people who attend their services. They are frustrated with the lack of information available to them relating to LGBTI+ issues and are eager to see significant improvements.
The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) are currently accepting submissions as part of its major review of Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE). This is to help ensure the findings and related draft advice of the review is reflective of the needs of students, schools and parents.
The submissions process is a huge opportunity for you to help get relationship and sexuality education right for all students in Ireland, including young LGBT+ people.
