When The Doors documentary When You’re Strange premiered at Sundance in 2009, one journalist walked out, refusing to accept that unreleased footage from an experimental film – which featured Jim Morrison playing a hitchhiker in the self-directed HWY: An American Pastoral – was genuine. That was much to the amusement of Robby Krieger, who witnessed the band’s archetypal rock frontman create the same drama and mystery in death as he did in life.
