1 WHAT IS TENNIS GOOD FOR?

‘As a whole-body sport, tennis is fantastic cardio exercise, giving your heart and lungs a workout,’ says Mark Petchey, ex-professional tennis player ranked 80th in the world and former coach to Andy Murray. ‘It’s an endurance sport but it’s dynamic, too, with short, intense bursts of effort (as you sprint for the ball) that increase your power. It’s a multidimensional activity, which is great for functional fitness. All that lunging, twisting, jumping and reaching for shots will work wonders for your balance, co-ordination and flexibility,’ he adds.
