If the media is anything to go by, we’re all having mind-blowing sex most nights. Interesting, then, that a recent survey by Public Health England (PHE) revealed almost half of women aren’t happy in the bedroom. It’s a statistic that doesn’t surprise me. I regularly see women who are struggling to understand their own needs, let alone those of their partner.
It doesn’t help that we live in a highly sexualised society, with porn and social media feeding us unrealistic ideas. When the expectation is all-night romps in skimpy negligées, real life – you, exhausted, in your faded PJs – can’t really compete.
Fatigue plays a big role. According to PHE’s survey, women aged 25-34 are the least satisfied sexually. Given that this is the decade when most of us are juggling a busy career with setting up home and maybe starting a family, it’s understandable that sex gets pushed to the bottom of the to-do list. Stress is a huge turn-off – the brain is the most important sexual organ of all, so if you’re not feeling relaxed and happy, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to feel any desire. So how can you get the sex you really want at any age?
