She’s been in the spotlight more than half her life, but Davina McCall is far from slowing down. We catch up with the presenter and fitness guru on why ageing is empowering, no matter what life brings…

Davina McCall describes herself as a work in progress. Certainly, if you track her interviews over the years, the older she gets, the better she feels about herself. And this time, post-50, is no exception. ‘I definitely feel like I’m in better shape than I ever have been,’ she shrugs nonchalantly. She’s just been explaining the changes time has made to her body, and how little she cares about it. ‘It’s one of those things I can’t do anything about, so it’s pointless to worry – it makes you unhappy in yourself. I’ve got a wrinkly tummy, but that’s OK, and my boobs aren’t up round my neck anymore, and that’s OK, too,’ she laughs.

It’s said wisdom comes with age, and while Davina’s far from over the hill, she’s certainly has a mature mind-set. ‘One of the great things about getting older is that you’re just much more accepting of everything,’ she explains. ‘But I still think my body looks great. I post more pictures of wrinkly skin and saggy boobs because people need to see that.’

Like everything else in her life, Davina’s recent divorce was also open for all to see. Despite this, she put on a brave face and is focusing on putting her children first. It’s easy to see why the TV presenter has been a long-time favourite with audiences. Dealing with problems in her usual, self-aware way humanises her. We all go through rough patches and make mistakes, and Davina’s the first to point out she’s no exception. ‘I’m not perfect by any means, but I’m happy in my own skin,’ she says.
