Editorial assistant Francesca filled up on Mediterranean goodness in Spain
In sun-scorched southern Spain, half an hour from the coast and the crashing waves of the Mediterranean, is the five-star Barceló Montecastillo Golf hotel near Jerez. All lush lawns, leafy trees and tranquil water features, it’s a vision of freshness and abundance. You could say the same of the hotel’s menu – delicious, natural food with a strong injection of traditional Mediterranean flavour. And, like the hotel’s 18-hole golf course, it’s all presented in an artful way. But there’s one crucial difference: when it comes to food, there’s really no rule book.
Every morning of my four-day trip kicked- off with a personalised smoothie from the ‘Vital Corner’; a juice bar with a rainbow pick-and-mix of fruit and vegetables and nutrient-packed seed toppings from chia to flax, plus algae for an extra vitamin boost. On hand was the hotel’s resident nutritionist, who chatted to guests separately about any health concerns and ailments before blending them up an appropriate juice.
