STAR LETTER
Outdoors therapy
I wanted to thank you for your article Fresh Thinking (August). I was interested to learn friluftsliv is used to describe a way of life that is spent exploring and appreciating nature in Norway. I can appreciate how regular exposure to nature has mental and physical health benefits, even in children. It’s linked to reduced ADHD, more creativity, better critical thinking, better behaviour and a stronger sense of purpose. I also like the fact that exploring nature doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t depend on expensive equipment or glamping accessories. It’s a rugged mountain hike, a lazy walk in the park – in short it’s a communion between humans and habitats.
