THAT FATEFUL DAY
I am writing to you in response to a letter about Operation Overlord (Letters, May 2016). As one who took part in that operation – landing on Gold Beach on Tuesday 6 June 1944 – I was a member of a small unit of Royal Corps of Signals, whose job was to maintain temporary communications with the different regiments on the beachhead. I was a wireless operator.
