1959 BARBIE HITS THE SHELVES

Barbie has come a long way since the doll first went on sale at the American Toy Fair in New York City, on 9 March 1959

“I’LL NEED STEVEN AND BRIAN’S HELP TO TURN IT INTO A REAL GAME!”

Barbie first donned specs in 2010, with the I Can Be a Computer Engineer doll. A corresponding book of the same name had to be withdrawn from shelves following complaints of sexist content Barbie needed the help of two male coworkers to complete a game she was programming.
