The volume tells the stories of individual emigrants, from poor crofter to wealthy merchant
This month’s magazine contains an article on Scots in Tasmania (p. 26), and as we know, this international and long-standing connection was part of a wider, global movement of Scots from early modern times into the present day. Here, we look at a relatively recent volume published by the society which examines the same subject but in relation to the Americas. The society publishes material relating to ‘the history of Scotland and the Scots’ – wherever they might be in the world – and so we have a great deal of material relating to Scots overseas.
