Project makeover

This issue we pit editor Charlotte against three HomeStyle stylists to transform an unloved item into statement furniture – on your marks, ladies!

Part 2: The Great Upcycling Challenge

When faced with a bedraggled set of drawers or a bedside table that’s seen better days – stop. Bring your mind back from mentally shopping for a replacement and ask yourself ‘is this an opportunity to make something really great?’ If you were going to chuck it out anyway, you’ve got nothing to lose! Here to show you just how easy and cheap it can be is editor Charlotte, who zones in on a particularly bland chest of drawers, shabby chic afficionado Kate Nicole and creative double act Juliet Bawden and Amanda Russel – their 10-minute table idea is, quite frankly, ingenious. And as ever, you can vote for your favourite by simply tweeting #charlotteschallenge, #charityshopsweep or #highstreethack to @homestylemaguk. We’re pleased to announce that Juliet and Amanda won last issue with their copper pendant lights and hairpin leg bench – congratulations! Maybe it will be Kate or Charlotte’s time to shine this issue... Their fate is in your hands.

About Homestyle

We’re so excited to bring you the second issue of HomeStyle magazine. Thank you to everyone who has been in touch, it’s great to hear all of your wonderful stories and see that we’ve ignited your creativity and energy to transform your homes. It’s been a fun-packed month here in the HomeStyle offices, let me tell you! I stepped into the battlefield of The Great Upcycling Challenge for the first time; see the results on page 84 – then please vote for me in our little competition on Twitter! I also visited some amazing spaces this issue, including the inspiring home of seamstress and professional crafter Lisa Comfort (our cover girl this month, see page 16). Everywhere I turned there was another idea Lisa had cleverly designed – and always high on style yet tight on budget. The team’s been busy again tracking down even more high street bargains for you to snap up, just turn the page to get started. And remember we want you to be a part of HomeStyle too, so do send us your project pictures and it’s never too late to be our cover girl!
