As the season comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to put some effort into further producing your horse’s paces. Whether he has a wobbly walk, tentative trot or cumbersome canter, we’ve put together an exercise for every gait to help you make the most of your time in the school – and boost your marks at the same time.
TOP TIP
If your horse’s paces deteriorate or he loses enthusiasm, ask your vet to check him over to make sure nothing’s making him uncomfortable. Get his teeth, back and saddle checked, too.
Wayward walk
Use small circles to create and maintain a rhythmical and powerful walk... 1. Begin by walking around a 12–15m circle, ideally over X.
